Changing Troops can be Scary

By: Pioneer, Kiersten VA0525

I have been in American Heritage Girls, for almost six years, and have been in Troop VA 2007, since I started. It has been great and though, the Troop has moved locations from time to time, we always had a core group of girls. Due to circumstances I don’t completely understand, the girls started slowly not coming anymore and our Troop had to close. I still wanted to be in AHG, then came the challenge to find a new Troop that I could attend.

My mom and I checked out a Troop nearby but they met during the day. We then checked out another Troop and liked it. There was even a girl there that used to go to my old Troop. There is even a girl in the new Troop that lives down the road from me. While I am sad that my old Troop ended, I am happy that I am with this new Troop. Although it is fun, it is kind of scary to start a new Troop with new people.

  1. Wow. I read your post a while back, but I never knew how this felt until now, and I am going through the exact same situation. Thank you for sharing:)

  2. Oh my goodness! I had to do the same thing! I went to the troop at a church called St. Veronica’s in VA and girls started not coming and so I had to go to a church called St. Timothy’s and now it feels like home. Thanks for posting this! 🙂

  3. Well when I changed troops the girls invited to a get together that they had. When there were new girls in my old troop we welcomed them with a warm smile and treated them like we had been friends for a long time. Sorry it took so long to reply, I hope you have found a way to welcome them.

  4. I just wanted to say that you have an awesome name. I’ve never met anyone else who spells it this way before! 😀

My Pi/Pa unit is so tight knit that I can’t imagine what it would be like to move to a new troop… It would be such a different experience. Way to go for persevering!

  5. it’s ok to be sad, I was in the same. I went to being a girl scoot in elementy school to become in AHG. I was sad at first because I had to leave all my friends, I also had to leave a friend that I got with in kindergarden. I am still sad about that. but I am still glad you wanted to be in AHG. have fun.

  6. Are there any ways to make a new girl who moved to another troop feel at home? There are some girls who moved recently and joined my troop, and I want to be good friends with them.
